Zonal & Regal Geraniums
The first zonal geraniums traveled from South Africa and were cultivated and marveled over in glasshouses by the early 1600s. We still love them today for their varied, beautifully patterned leaves and varied flower shapes and colors. Plant in well-drained soils and allow the soil to dry before watering thoroughly. Regal geraniums have large flowers in luscious colors. They require specialized care to bloom abundantly. Trim to shape right after their spring bloom ends, and keep them in a sheltered place until fall temperatures expose them to six weeks of cool to initiate the buds for the following spring's bloom.
