Winged Everlasting 'White'

Ammobium alatum grandiflorum
Full of individuality and charm, this heirloom flower has escaped modern efforts at hybridization and the often less-than-desirable results. Winged stems of bright grass green emerge in summer from the low rosette of leaves and curve gracefully upward. Small papery white bracts surround the golden centers of the flower, each flower remaining attractive for 1-2 weeks. The whole planting is abuzz with bees all summer!

PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
Native to Australia, Ammobium is an interesting plant that grows in masses along borders and dry garden edges. It's weaving, winged, and almost succulent stems curve upwards to display papery, bright white flowers with golden centers at their very tips. Winged everlasting is a popular filler in bouquets and can also be dried for use as winter flowers. It looks especially nice when supported by the stiff stems of a golden gloriosa daisy, or mingling with Agrostemma 'Ocean Pearls'.
