Malcolmia maritima
This old favorite of grandmothers' gardens is often seen where it has self-sown for years, as seed companies rarely offer it. Fragrant, easy to grow, and quick to bloom, the pastel flowers have dark-centered eyes and delicate tracery adorning the petals. Sow both fall and spring for extended bloom; where summer nights cool down, they bloom all season, even after the first frosts of fall.

PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
Virginia stock is native to the Mediterranean and has been cultivated in England since the early 1700s. It is a sweet four-petaled spring bloomer that fills in garden edges and containers with pink and lavender-blue blooms and helps conceal the browning bulb foliage when interplanted with spring bulbs. It does best in the cool weather of early summer and fall and is perfect for children to try, as it is easy to grow and quick to bloom.
