SOWING INSTRUCTIONS
Starting Indoors:
Sow indoors in pots, covering with a light sprinkling of vermiculite. Keep at 65-70°F for 2-4 weeks. If no germination, cover with plastic and refrigerate for 4 weeks, then return to warm. Germinates over a long period.
Starting Outdoors:
Direct sow in early spring, or winter sow into pots in the shade in late winter, covered with a thin layer of clean sand and a wire screen to keep out mice and voles. Check for water, keeping evenly moist.
PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
Devil's bit scabious is a valuable all summer and fall bloomer with tall, airy stems holding 1" globes of lavender blue flowers that are always abuzz with bees–and butterflies too! Native to Europe, where they grow in meadows and marshy areas, they do best in well-drained soils and require little fertility. Ideal as a long-blooming weaver in borders and meadow plantings, they are a useful cut flower, and the blooms can be dried.
Watering Details:
Water regularly until established, when less water is needed.
Fertilizer:
Mix in 1" of compost in poor soils.
