Strobilanthes dyerianus
A native of Burma, this classy tropical foliage plant was introduced into Kew Gardens in 1836. Persian shield thrives in hot, humid weather and grows well in the ground and large pots. The large, lance-shaped leaves are dark green overlaid completely with violet-purple and iridescent silver. They are electrifying paired with flame-hued Coleus and orange Salvias and subdued in company with baby pink Dahlias and grey foliage plants.

PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
Persian shield is a tropical foliage plant that thrives in hot and humid conditions in rich, moist soil. Great as a focal point in your container garden or beds with coleus in part shade. Pinch back young plants to encourage branching. Potted plants can be overwintered indoors as houseplants; bring them in before temperatures drop below 45°F, and place them in a sunny, warm window. Prune back in springtime if legginess is a problem; the plant may eventually become woodier with less dense foliage as it ages.

Keep moist but not soggy—a little more than 1" per week should do. More during especially dry/windy periods. Do not allow to dry out.
