SOWING INSTRUCTIONS
Depth:
Just cover; requires light
Starting Indoors:
6-8 weeks before last frost, sow in sterile germinating mix—barely cover and cover with humidity dome to retain moisture while seeds germinate. Keep at about 65-70°F.
Starting Outdoors:
Direct sow in early summer.
PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
This unique mullein from Greece can look weedy with its wispy green foliage and wiry, many-branched stems dotted along the length with buds. Then, the gold flowers open and transform the garden as they flutter on the uplifted branches, barely held, it seems, to dance freely. Provide a spot out of wind with well-drained soils where they bloom evenings and mornings all season, closing when the sun is high.
Watering Details:
Only need to water during especially prolonged dry periods.
Fertilizer:
Apply a granular, organic fertilizer in springtime. Too much fertilizer will hinder flowering.
Diseases & Pests:
Leaf spot and powdery mildew can occasionally be a problem, especially if plants do not get enough air circulation or receive too much moisture, as this can cause some fungal problems to spread. Prevent by placing in areas with adequate air flow (but not windy) and not overwatering.
