PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
California native Mentzelia thrives in rocky, very well-drained soils along with California poppy. It is a spring to summer bloomer that is perfect in large drifts in xeriscape settings. In the garden, it blooms well and attracts native pollinators, but will melt away if summer rainstorms are at all frequent.
Drought tolerant once established, little supplemental water needed.
Mix in a granular organic flower fertilizer with low nitrogen in poor soils.
