Sanvitalia procumbens
Introduced in 1798 from its native Mexico, this golden-yellow daisy flower looks very much like a small black-eyed susan with short petals and a big brown eye. They are covered with blooms all summer. The stems, trailing to 2', have a billowing effect, adding an informal ambiance to garden edges and containers.

Creeping zinnia or Sanvitalia is a native of Mexico, and its sharply pointed petals stitched around velvety brown centers are adornments of the summer garden. Well-behaved, it creates carpets of narrow deepest green leaves and bright flowers along garden edges and paths and in containers. Well-drained soils and sun its only requirements.
