Sow in pots 8-12 weeks before last frost. Cover lightly with vermiculite or a humidity dome to retain moisture, and keep at 60-65°F.
Starting Outdoors:
Direct sow in warmer climates (zones 8+) after last springtime frost.
PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
Chilean glory flower 'Tresco Mix' is an unusual vine that is a showy specimen in pots in northern areas. Where perennial, in zones 8-10, it grows up to 12' tall. Provide a trellis, carefully tying in the delicate shoots to start its upward twining. Prune back dead stems and exuberant growth to shape. To overwinter indoors, bring inside before nighttime temperatures drop below 40°F and place in a sunny, south-facing window. If the plant appears to be entering dormancy (loss of leaves), reduce watering to once every two to four weeks until early spring.
Watering Details:
Keep moist but never saturated—about 1" per week, more during especially dry spells. Do not allow the soil to dry out.
Fertilizer:
Mix in 2-4" of compost prior to planting. A regular feeding with a water-soluble fertilizer may also be applied every 4 weeks.
Diseases & Pests:
Spider mites and whiteflies can be troublesome when this vine is overwintered indoors; treat with neem oil or an insecticidal soap if needed.
When to Cut for Bouquets:
Cut when most flowers on a spray are open.
