Baby's Breath 'Covent Garden'

Gypsophila elegans
This sweet flower is a small delight, well-loved as a bouquet flower. Its airy sprays of petite 1/2" purest white single blooms are welcome in the cottage garden as they gracefully weave among bolder flowers. Charming paired with cornflowers and so much more beautiful than the common top-heavy doubled form.

PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
A more demure version of the typical double-flowered baby's breath found in floral shops, 'Covent Garden' is the perfect addition to bouquets and cottage garden borders in sharply drained, alkaline soils. Pinch when young to encourage bushy growth and shear after flowering to promote a second, later bloom or sow twice a season, three weeks apart. Provide support with twiggy brush placed early in windy sites.
Final Spacing:
1'
Water Requirements:
Medium Water Use
Watering Details:
About 1" per week. Drought tolerant once fully established.
Soil pH:
Neutral to slightly alkaline
Fertilizer:
If soil is especially poor, mix in an inch or two of compost prior to planting. Excess fertilizer will promote vegetative growth which can cause the plants to become weak and therefore susceptible to wind and heavy rain damage.
Diseases & Pests:
Excessively fertile soil will cause weak, overly vegetative plants with fewer blooms. Avoid fertile soils.
When to Cut for Bouquets:
Harvest when the flowers are 3/4 to fully open.
