SOWING INSTRUCTIONS
Starting Indoors:
Sow indoors and keep at 65-70°F for 2-4 weeks, then refrigerate at 36-40°F for 4 weeks, bringing back into warm conditions after this moist-cold stratification period.
Starting Outdoors:
Direct sow in fall or earliest spring, or winter sow into pots in the shade, covered with a thin layer of clean sand and a wire screen to keep out mice and voles. Check for moisture at regular intervals.
PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
Woodland edges and partial-shade native gardens are ideal places to grow Indian Psychic or American Ipecac. Used as an emetic by native tribes in the past, it is found in Kansas, east to New York, and south to Georgia. Starry flowers, excellent fall color, and decorative small seedheads make this a worthwhile addition to native woodland gardens in dappled sun—low maintenance.
Watering Details:
Somewhat drought-tolerant. Water regularly until established, then water during prolonged dry periods.
Soil pH:
Prefers slightly acidic to neutral soils.
Fertilizer:
Mix in a few inches of compost prior to planting; topdress annually in spring.
