Sowing Instructions

Depth: 1/8-1/4"
Sprout Time: 3-10 days
Starting Indoors: Start in pots 4-5 weeks before last spring frost. Keep at about 60-75°F.
Starting Outdoors: Direct sow in spring, after last frost.
When to Set Outside: In springtime, after all danger of frost has passed.

Placement & Cultivation

Sulfur cosmos are tolerant of drought conditions making them a good choice for meadow plantings. The flowers bloom with abandon, and can finish bloom midsummer seedheads are left on the plant. Deadhead daily or shear after the first flush of bloom to encourage rebloom, reseed in midsummer, or replace with a quick blooming annual. Self sows.

Watering Details: Drought tolerant. Water regularly while establishing, then only during dry, hot spells.
Soil pH: Prefers acidic to neutral
Fertilizer: Cosmos do not need rich soils, and may sprawl in nitrogen rich soils.

I planted these from seed. One survived the bunnies and is outstanding. Stems are strong and flowers float in the breeze. I planted it near a plant with dark foliage and the combination is beautiful.
