This plant grew well, flowered abundantly and pleased the bees. However our 'Salvia Garden' is outside of our screened porch and is in shade in late afternoon. In the shade the dark flowers are virtually invisible. We will stick with 'Van Houtteii', Faye Chapel and the new Roman Red which show up very well even in afternoon shade.
Of all the pollinator flowers I have planted in my home office window box, this Salvia is by far the most prolific at attracting hummingbirds all day long. I purchased this salvia from Select Seeds for the first time last year (2022). The plants took longer than I had hoped to fill out the window box and start flowering (attached photo taken in mid-July) but once it did they didn't stop flowering until our first hard frost here in north-central CT. By August, the window box was a bushy shade of deep purple!
