Placement & Cultivation

Fuchsia plants are a classic choice for summer containers in bright indirect light or in gardens with morning sun and afternoon shade. They are elegant additions to hanging baskets or pots in sheltered positions, the curtains of dangling blossoms bringing hummingbirds like few other flowers. If desired, overwinter by pruning back by 1/3 and moving indoors into a cool room once nighttime temperatures dip below 45F. Avoid fertilizing in winter and expect some leaf drop.

Soil pH: Acidic to neutral
Fertilizer: Fertilize every two to four weeks, spring through the beginning of autumn. Stop fertilizing two weeks before your planned date to move plants indoors for the winter. An all-purpose, organic water-soluble fertilizer is adequate.
Diseases & Pests: Hosing down or regular misting with a spray bottle will help to prevent spider mites and whiteflies. This can be done year-round. Avoid foliar disease by providing good air circulation around your plants.
