PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
The name sage comes from the Latin salveo, 'I am well,' for sage was and is believed to have healthful properties. The thick leaves were once used to whiten teeth and the seeds to sharpen sight. Gardeners find sage is a decorative plant for borders or rock gardens and is valuable in vegetable and herb gardens. Once established, cut 6-8" from the top of the plant at least twice during the growing season, taking care not to cut back more than half of the plant. Pick leaves as desired for culinary use as soon as the plant starts to flower.
