A hybrid foxglove with towers of swoon-worthy peachy blooms that slowly fade to creamy pink with freckled interiors. A huge plus: it blooms the first year from an early indoor sowing, unlike traditional varieties. Compact and upright, it is right at home in the exuberance of the June border. Remove faded flowers and avoid wet winter soils to encourage a following season of bloom. Biennial to short-lived perennial. Poisonous

HOW TO GROW Digitalis purpurea

Sowing Instructions

Depth: Surface sow and press in lightly; requires light to germinate.
Sprout Time: 7-20 days
Starting Indoors: Recommended: 10-12 weeks before last frost, sow in germinating mix; covering flat with humidity dome to retain moisture while seeds germinate. Keep at 60-65°F.
Starting Outdoors: Direct sow after last spring frost until early summer. Will bloom the following year.
When to Set Outside: At last frost date.

Placement & Cultivation

A hybrid foxglove that will likely bloom the first year, unlike traditional varieties. Compact and upright in growth, it is right at home in the exuberance of the June garden border and is a good cut flower too. Remove faded flowers and avoid wet winter soils to encourage a following season of bloom.
Final Spacing: 1-1.5'
Water Use: Medium Water Use
Watering Details: Water regularly—1" per week, more during particularly dry spells.
Soil pH: Acidic to mildly alkaline.
Fertilizer: Mix about 2" of compost into the soil at time of planting, and top-dress next spring with about 1".
Diseases & Pests: Slugs can be troublesome. Prevent damage by sprinkling iron phosphate pellets on the ground around the plants during favorable conditions for slugs. Avoid powdery mildew and leaf spot with proper spacing in a location that has good air circulation.
When to Cut For Bouquets: When about half of the florets have opened

Select Seeds Confirmed Purchase

Started seeds indoors 3/5/19 (zone 4) and had good germination. Planted in the landscape 5/20. All plants formed gorgeous flowers the first yr. I'm excited to see if they come back next yr. I purchased another bag of seeds for 2020.
