A superb ground cover coleus that also is a stunner cascading over pots providing the "spiller" component in your container combos. Bright grassy green scalloped edges surround the cherry-rose and burgundy centers. Heat tolerant.

When to Set Outside: Two weeks after last spring frost, as coleus resents cool soil.

Placement & Cultivation

Coleus are often grown in containers that can be grouped with other shade lovers such as Begonia and Fuchsia to create instant gardens on the terrace. If planting in beds, make sure the soil is fertile and very well-drained. Many new coleus thrive in full sun, but if the leaves bleach try moving pots to afternoon shade. Coleus roots readily and can be re-planted slightly deeper than its previous depth in very well-drained soils, which will encourage fresh growth of roots as well as stems. Pinch back when planting to encourage a more bushy form and increase your supply, as coleus cuttings root easily in water.

Water Use: High Water Use
Watering Details: About 1-2" a week. Keep evenly moist, allowing soil to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid saturated soils. Containerized plants may need more frequent watering.
Soil pH: Tolerates most soil pH levels.
Fertilizer: Mix a time-released fertilizer into growing media or ground prior to planting. A regular application of water-soluble fertilizer is beneficial.
Diseases & Pests: No major problems. Aphids can be controlled with several sprays of insecticidal soap, which smothers the insects.

Just received my first shipment from Select Seeds and am SO IMPRESSED by top quality - Extraordinary shipping speed, shipping materials, and condition of plants. I've been looking for Coleus Lava Rose for some time because I love this multicolor trailer for containers. She is under my indoor lights for now, but can't wait till frost danger is past so I can nestle it with other plants in my shipment (Begonia Mistral and Fuschia Billy Green) in my big deck planter in morning sun, where the butterflies, bees and hummingbirds will visit this summer.
