Lavender - English

Lavandula angustifolia

This cultivar has rich, deep purple flowers and gray-green, needle-like leaves. It originated at Hidcote Manor, England before 1950. More compact than some, it is often used as a hedge in sandy, well-drained soils. Historically, and today in the reed art of aromatherapy, lavender is used for headaches, fatigue, faintness, and in massage oil for tired muscles. Harvest blooms on a sunny day when only about a third of the blossoms have opened and dry to enjoy the scent of lavender all winter.
