Old-fashioned larkspurs are favorite cut flowers and prized for their jewel-like tones.
They are cool weather plants that must have cold weather during germination and seedling
growth.
In northern areas sow four weeks before the last spring frost; in southern areas
fall sowing in October and November will ensure success. They take a while to germinate so
an early planting is essential.
Provide well-drained soil in sun to part shade, and be
sure to thin for strong, free-blooming plants. They combine well with Shirley poppies,
peony poppies, and pansies, and self sow to become carefree inhabitants of our gardens.
